Working from home might not become the norm, but it is a very viable option when you’re saving money for your business or protecting your health. Sometimes, without a boss looking over your shoulder, it can be difficult to stay motivated and focused. If you’re looking for ways to manage time more effectively from home, here are some tips.

To-Do Lists

Have a weekly list of things you need to complete. Make sure to include deadlines, so you don’t miss something. Rework the list daily, updating it as needed. Having a to-do list can help you make sure that you’re working towards your priorities and show you items that can be delegated to free up your time.

Schedule in Breaks and Downtime

Working nonstop every day for 10 or more hours isn’t realistic. If you were in an office, you might walk around, take a lunch break and maybe have a quick coffee meeting in the afternoon. When you’re home, it’s easy to forget to get away from your desk. Allow yourself time during the day to let your mind wander and look away from the computer.

Schedule Time Without Distractions

As you schedule downtime, plan time to work without distractions. Block out time where you don’t answer emails or the phone.  Set the timer for 45 or 50 minutes. Focus until the timer goes off. Turn off anything that takes your mind off work.

Set Boundaries

When you work from home, your family and friends may not take your time seriously. You may have to tell them that you can’t talk during the day. Say no when you’re overwhelmed with too much work. You have to manage time to be the best entrepreneur you can be.
